He is survived by: his wife Norma Jean of Culbertson; his son Russell Berndt (Cindy) of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Zachary Berndt and Morgan Hereth (Brett) of Atlanta, GA; and his sister Eleanor Berndt of Benkelman, NE.. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
