He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Merchant and Margaret Merchant (Hodges); his wife Judy Mae Madison; his great grandchild Evelyn Mae Graves; and his siblings, Paul, Pat, Tim Merchant and Mary Jean Gilman.
He is survived by: his daughters, Rita Houska (Randy) of Crofton, Jodie Merchant of Crofton and Shelly Heidbrink (Joe) of Yankton; his grandchildren, Mandi Mueller (Brent), Jesse Graves (Katie), Brittanie Ferden (Dan), Breisha Weber (Anthony), Breezie Dryden and Joey Dryden (Tashia); his brother Mick Merchant (Kathy) of McCook Lake, SD; and his close friend Oshie. He is also survived by 35 great grandchildren.
