She was predeceased by: her siblings, Arthur Edwards, Marie (John Stuckers), Howard (Shirley Edwards), Ernest Edwards, Mabel (Ron MacKenzie), Edna Ernsdorff, Allen Edwards, Carma Edwards and Frank Putz; and her sons-in-law, Wayne Christopherson and Alvis Lisenbee.
She is survived by: her husband Orrin William Smith; her daughters, Karel Birnie (Robert) of Salix, IA, Kathleen Christopherson of Rapid City, SD, Laurel Shaffer (Ken) of Lennox, SD and Nancy Krier (Jim) of Herrick, SD; her siblings, Verna Mae Buhr of Viroqua, WI, Verdene Parker (Ralph) of Gering, NE and Alvin Edwards of Kearney, NE; her sister-in-law Geneva Putz of Park Rapids, MN; and her grandchildren, Valerie Birnie DeBates (Mike), Sara Birnie Allen (Chris), Jacqueline Birnie Bates (Joe), Orrin Johnson (Alicia), Ingrid Johnson Reuter (Jason), Alissa Shaffer Luden (Jeremy), Amy Shaffer Penning (Ryan), Natalie Krier Arreola (Fidel) and Samuel Krier. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
