He was predeceased by: his parents, James T. Smith and Evelyn L Smith (Brennan); his wife Roberta Ballue; his daughter Shelly Smith-Myers; his children-in-law, Tim Myers and Jessica Smith; and his grandson Henry Cotton.

He is survived by: his children, Karla, Nathan, Tony, Kelly Ragan (Travis) and James Smith; his grandchildren, Jessica Alsup (Matthew), Kyla Tiemeyer (Patric), Jeremiah Kimpston (Meagan), Kristin Smith, Kyle Smith, Kody Smith, Cassius Cotton, Erin Smith, Kristen Ragan and Tasi Mayfield (Aaron); and his great grandchildren, Ryan Paris, Raelee Russell, Rogan Russell, Taytin Tiemeyer, Brynna Alsup, Bentley Kimpston, Elsi Tiemeyer, Grant Kimpston, Sunny Smith, Motley Smith, Cash Janzen, Adleigh Eller, Maclyn Eller, Dawson Mayfield, Rowan Mayfield, Hank McCoy, Noah McCoy, Oliver Paris, Lena Paris, Jace Sullwold and Wyatt Sullwold.
