He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Nelson and Jayne Nelson (Eriksen); and his brother Wayne Nelson. He is survived by: his son Curtis (Cameron Nelson) of Ravenna; his wife Katrina Nelson of Boelus; his children, Wyatt Nelson, Jesse Nelson and Tessa Raymer of Boelus; his siblings, Melvin Nelson of Dannebrog and Sally; his brother-in-law Nathan Perkins of Missouri; his granddaughter Camille Nelson; his nieces and nephews, Andrea, Kyle Spotanski of Cairo, Victoria Nelson of Missouri and Lindsey Olufson of Minnesota; his great-niece Haley Spotanski; and his great-nephew Tyler Spotanski of Cairo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
