He was predeceased by: his son Christopher Nies; and the mother of his child Mary Ellen Nies. He is survived by: his children, Joel Nies of North Carolina, Patrick Gunnink of North Dakota, Autumn Nies of Bloomfield, Eros Nies of Bloomfield and Serenity Nies of Sioux City, Iowa; and his brothers, David (Kandy Nies) of Rowlett and Marvin Troy Nies of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
