He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Bates; and his son Alfred. He is survived by: his children, Karla Broman of Blair and Kevin Hernes (Jeana) of Arlington; his grandchildren, Daniel Broman (Alexis), Ty Hernes and Kodi Hernes (Mitchell Trask); and his great grandchild Arthur Broman.

Memorials may be directed to the Danish American Archive & Library in Blair or First Lutheran Church in Blair.
