He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Armstrong and Arlene Armstrong (Donahue) of Big Springs, Nebraska.; and his sister Gloria Armstrong. He is survived by: his wife Michelle Armstong (Soper); his children, Kandace Footman (Alex) of Blaine, Dixie Chilzer (Tim) of Canonsburg and Chase Armstrong (Emma) of Sidney, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Zander, Savii, Mark and Riggs; and his siblings, Beverly Baker (Jerry) of Northglenn, Connie Barker (Jack) of Knoxville and Roger Armstrong (Elaine) of Berthoud, Colorado. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established for The Big Springs Fire Department.
