He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Smith and Mildred Smith (Kimball); his daughter Rebekkah Smith; his grandson Manuel Neher; his brothers, James Stanley (Evelyn) and Jack Stanley; and his siblings-in-law, Lloyd Howell, Donald Spencer (Hazel), Thomas Spencer (Darlene), Florence Morrison and Vonnie Spencer.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Spencer; his children, Russell Smith (Kari), Kim Brown (Randy) of Beatrice and Dawn Young (Mark Mohr) of Beatrice; his grandchildren, Aaron Smith (Ashley), Russell Smith (Vanessa), Cara Little (Jeremy), Klynne Neher (Isaac), Shelby McMurray (Clark), Edward Smith, Amber Young, Rebecca Young (Erich Hardenburger), Joshua Young (Morgan Aquilano), Justin Brown, Jackie Brown (Adam Fielder) and Jennifer Brown (Kaleb Theasmeyer); his sister Pat Howell of Iowa; and his brother-in-law Gary Morrison of Oregon. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice in care of the mortuary.
