He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Unvert; his children, Mary Beth Rathe, Mark Unvert (Suzanne), Melissa Kocour (Mark), Marcy VanEngen (Jeffrey) and Megan Wiese (Steven); his grandchildren, Benjamin, Emma, Joseph, Lydia Rathe, Kellen, Katelyn (Austin), Kaleb Unvert, Lauren (Bradley), Jack, Grant, Hannah Kocour, Gerrit VanEngen (Meghan), Gabriel VanEngen (Rachel), Grace VanEngen, Jesse, Ruby Hindera, Jase Wiese, Brendan Folk and Lin Ching-Huang; his siblings, Fred Unvert (Julie), Barbara Lott and Kathleen Zuber (Charles); his close friend Mike Buss; and his siblings-in-law, Richard Kelle, Betty Kirby (John) and Deb Kuwamoto (Ralph). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family's choice.
