James touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hays and Hazel Hays (Sparks); his daughter Patricia Krebs; his grandchildren, Ian Krebs and Andrea Scherling; his siblings, Audrey Sperber and Richard Hays (Eldine); and his parents-in-law, Ray and Erma Eick.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Eick; his children, Kathryn Klein (Leroy) of Millville, Mary Scherling (Rodney) of Beatrice and Jeffrey Hays (Krystal) of Diller; his son-in-law Steve Krebs of San Diego, California; his grandchildren, Thad Krebs (Jennifer), Benjamin Klein (Chat McGarry), Wade Scherling (Kayla), Chelsie Nutsch (Dustin) and Courtney Schoneweis (Logan); his great grandchildren, Princess, Natalie, Sabrina, Elyse, Eli, Paden, Victoria and Raylynn; and his brother-in-law Don Sperber of Colorado. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the YMCA in Beatrice to be used towards swimming programs.
