He was predeceased by: his parents, Selmer Nelson and Deloris Nelson (Duhachek); and his wife Carole Rautenberg. He is survived by: his sons, Rodney Nelson (Kim) of Norfolk and Brian Nelson (Angela) of Bellwood; his grandchildren, Brandon, Caitlyn, Alyssa, Abby and Colby; his great grandchildren, Kynsley and Warren; and his niece Connie Jensen.
