He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Unger and Dorothy Unger (Ventling); his brother Jim Unger; his father-in-law Harold Ohde; and his brother-in-law Ron Osborne.

He is survived by: his wife Cheri Ohde of Bartley; his sons, Matt Unger (Rachael) of Queens Creek, AZ, Bert Unger (Kristin) of Lincoln, NE and Joseph Unger of Oberlin, KS; his sister Connie Denton (Ray) of Roca, NE; and his sister-in-law Mary Unger of Grand Island, NE.. He is also survived by five grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He and Cheri were planning on a trip to Alaska this spring, but due to the pandemic had to cancel.
