He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Duane Ayre and Maxine Ayre (Stone); his wife Anita; his brother Charles Ayre (Chuck); his brother-in-law Darrel Taylor; his children, Annette Collison (Jeff) of Axtell, Sheila Smith (Mark) of Holdrege, Douglas Ayre (Jane) of Pawnee Rock, Kansas and Dyrek Ayre (Blanca) of Hays, Kansas; and his siblings, Arlene Taylor, Debbie Fender (Rickey) and Harry Williams. He was also cherished by grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Don's honor, and kindly suggested to the Axtell Volunteer Fire Department.
