He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Hawthorne and Jacqueline Hawthorne (Petry); and his siblings, Richard Shaffer and Trinity Seder. He is survived by: his children, Heather Burkholder (Travis), Lonnie Hawthorne, Nathan Menagh and Crystal Burmood; and his brothers, Charles Hawthorne (Lori) and Steve Shaffer. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
