He is survived by: his wife Mavis Steinke of Arthur; his brother Gerald Smith (Rhoda) of Scottsbluff, NE; his sister-in-law Hazel Smith of Edgar, NE; and his nieces and nephews, Dave Groshans (Rhonda) of Gering, NE, George Smith (Sondie) of Bertrand, NE, Waldo Smith (Melanie) of Columbus, NE, Lillas Hemenway (Shawn) of Roca, NE, Laurie Wessels of Edgar, NE, Colleen Wood (Ken) of North Platte, NE, Tracy Mumford of Fremont and Lynn Smith of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Nebraska American Legion in his name.
