He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Schmidt and Marie Schmidt (Petersen); his siblings, Eleanor Sullivan and LaVerne Schmidt; and his grandson Eric Lang.

He is survived by: his wife Sally; his children, Tyler Schmidt (Angela), Todd Schmidt (Kathy), Tim Schmidt (Dana) and Lori Lang (Greg) of Arlington; and his grandchildren, Phillip Lang (Laurel), Jacob Lang (Mandi), Jared Schmidt, Tanner Schmidt, Melinda Wakefield (Blake), Bradie Schmidt, Natalie Janssen (Vance), Claire Schmidt and Maggie Schmidt. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Arlington Community Church, Arlington Cemetery or the Arlington Softball Complex.
