He was predeceased by: his brother Wayne Lutjeharms; his parents-in-law, Henry and Lois Schumann; and his niece Kimberly Dawn Schippert. He is survived by: his wife Janet Lutjeharms of Alma; his daughters, Tonda Ross (Rod) of Republican City and Kami Frasier (Dusty) of Republican City; his granddaughter Brittyn Ranee Frasier; his sister Phyllis Lutjeharms (George Parker) of Phillipsburg, Kansas; his sisters-in-law, Vicki Lutjeharms (Bradley) of Lincoln, Nebraska and Julie Schippert (Richard) of Republican City; his nieces and nephews, Traci Eckles, Mark Lutjeharms (Julie), Kelli Colon (Mick), Christopher Schippert and Nichole Shaver (Jeff); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Luke, Maddux Eckles, Abby, Hayley Lutjeharms, Jalyn, Kyndal Colon, Meredith and Ellie Shaver.

A memorial has been established in Richard's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
