He was predeceased by: his parents, Hilario Gomez and Celia Gomez (Martinez); his brother Raul Gomez; and his son-in-law James S. Mikel. He is survived by: his son Sam Gomez; his wife Mary Gomez of Alliance; his children, Cindy Jacobo (Francisco) of Alliance, Ruben Gomez, Jr. of Alliance, Sammy Gomez (Nikki) of Sterling, CO, Becky Mikel of Guernsey, WY and Isaiah Gomez (Hilary) of Alliance; and his siblings, Roger Gomez (Angie) of Bridgeport, Robert Gomez (Otilla) of Alliance, Hilario Gomez (Eva) of McAllen, TX, Daniel Gomez of Mission, TX, Samuel Gomez (Juanita) of Othello, WA, Florencio Gomez (Orfilinda) of Alliance, Santos Gomez (Julie) of Alliance, Lydia Salazar (Casimiro) of Mission, TX, Juanita Galvan (Jaime) of Alliance and Celia Lopez (Misael) of Alliance. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.
