With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Jean Markel of Saint Thomas, North Dakota, born in Osnabrock, North Dakota, who passed away on February 18, 2023 at the age of 78. She was predeceased by: her adoptive parents, Martin Skaro and Rowena Skaro; her siblings, Harvey, Kenny, Floyd, Ronald, Dorothy, Ellen, Joyce and Roberta; her half-brother Gary Erickson; and her birth mother Alice.
She is survived by: her husband Albert Markel; her sons, Chad Markel of Crystal, ND, Andy Markel of St. Thomas, ND and Douglas Markel of St. Thomas, ND; her grandchildren, Sheiana and Tayden; her sisters, Betty Riske of Bismarck, ND and Donna Slotto of Cavalier, ND; and her half-siblings, Debbie Knutson, Loren and Larry Erickson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
