He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Barta and Mary Barta (Manzini); and his wife Caroline Novak. He is survived by: his sons, Herman T. Barta (Jane) and Thomas Barta of Grand Forks, ND; his grandson Chad Barta (Brenda); and his great grandchildren, Noah of Mesa, AZ. and Eli of Mesa, AZ..

In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the St. Thomas Fire Department.
