He was predeceased by: his father Gunder Oakland; his son Shane Oakland; his stepfather Leonard Lien; and his sister-in-law Doreen Oakland. He is survived by: his mother Doris Oakland (Thorson); his daughter Kinsey Kae (Adam Maertens); his grandsons, Aanders, Gunder and Ole (Joanne Hendrickson); his former wife Kandy Held; and his siblings, Gary Oakland, Gloria (Jim Gebur), Deb (Steve Hill) and Wayne Oakland (Freda). He is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews and many great-nieces & great-nephews.
