He was predeceased by: his parents, Mons Aafedt and Julia Aafedt (Berdahl); his brother Leland; and his siblings-in-law, Ruth Aafedt and Merle Schultz.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Sigurdson of Petersburg; his sister Bonnie Schultz of Fargo, ND; his children, Dan, Lori Whalen (John) of Windsor, CO and Tracey Aafedt of Pauls Valley, OK; and his grandchildren, Beth Chacon (Jermaine Callaway), Cori Aafedt and Cody Whalen.
