He is survived by: his children, Linda Meschke (Art) of Dickinson, Renee Diekman (Steve) of Fargo, Cheryl Mellmer (Jerry) of New England, Keith Benz (Bonnie) of Bismarck, Janel Spaeth (Tom) of Bismarck, Brian Benz (Jami) of Bismarck, Jolene German (Dave) of Bismarck, Gary Benz of New England, Curtis Benz of Bismarck and Joyce Decker (Todd) of Dickinson; and his brothers, John Benz (Theresia) of Dickinson and Henry Benz of Mandan. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
