He was predeceased by: his parents, John Herner Sr. and Marie Herner (Wolf); his brothers-in-law, Matthew Helfrich, Harvey Helfrich (Katherine), Louie Helfrich, Vince Helfrich (Ella Nesheim) and Kenneth Helfrich (Vicki); his wife Betty Helfrich; his brother Jerome; his sister-in-law Florence Herner; his sister Ann; his brother-in-law Lee Senn; his brother John Herner Jr.; his parents-in-law, Art Sr. and Magdalena Helfrich; and his siblings-in-law, Art Jr., Loretta Helfrich, Anton, Irene Helfrich, Clara, Victor Messmer, Patricia Helfrich, Gary Helfrich, Margaret Helfrich, Anna Helfrich and Mike Frieze.
He is survived by: his sons, Delbert "Del" (Barbara), Dennis (Kathy), Alan (Sharon) and Arvin; his grandchildren, Marcy (Matt) and Werner; and his sisters-in-law, Delores Frieze, Violet Helfrich and Mary Ann Weidmer (Harry). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
