He was predeceased by: his parents, Felix Merck and Mary Merck; his parents-in-law, Ruth and Lester McDonald; his siblings, John (Bill), Alex (Gerd), Joseph (Beverly), Leo Merck (Carolyn), Jane Sattler, Mary Jose (Rudy), Regina Kahoutek (Carl), Catherine Duchscherer (Roy) and Elizabeth Schaan (Vincent); and his in-laws, Wesley Johnson, William Cowan, James McDonald, Daniel McDonald and Patricia McDonald.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Jo; his son Steven Merck (Diane) of Granville; his granddaughter Emily; his son Leslie Merck (Pamela) of Minot; his granddaughter Jessica Schlegel (Matthew); his great grandchild Owen; his grandson Eric Merck; his daughter Deborah Richter (David) of Williston; his granddaughter Stephanie Johnson (Josh); his great grandchildren, Parker, Brady, Lennon, Walker and Austyn; his grandson Douglas Richter (Katelyn); his great grandchildren, Avery and Case; his granddaughter Rachel Lordemann (Luke); and his siblings-in-law, Carolyn Johnson, Teresa Cowan, LaRae McDonald and Tom McDonald. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
