He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Berning and Elsie Berning (Schutz); his sister Phoebe Ann Shepard; and his half-brother Glenn Berning. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen "Cookie" Berning; his children, Todd Berning (Carolyn) of West Fargo and Shaun Ellen Gleason (Richard) of Denver; his grandchildren, Landen Berning of Minneapolis and Keenen Berning of Fargo; his children, Trayton Molland of Fargo and Brandon Molland (Michelle) of Phoenix, AZ; his nieces, Michele Hudson Rothe of Steamboat Springs, Melinda Shepard Wamsher and Allison Butts of Kansas City; and his nephew John Hudson of Kansas City.
Memorials are preferred to the Wallace D. Berning Scholarship Endowment at Minot State University (MSU Development Foundation, 500 University Ave. West, Minot, ND 58707).
