He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Cogdill and Gwendolyn Cogdill (Sipes); his wife Geri; his brother Larry; and his in-laws, Art and Avis Daniel.

He is survived by: his children, Laura Nelson (Todd) of Towner, Heather Opland (Benjamin) of Burlington, ND and Joshua Cogdill (Amy) of Burlington, ND; his grandchildren, Claire and Karly Nelson; his children, Charlie, Audrey, Kate Opland, Delila and Harrison Cogdill; his siblings, Brad Cogdill (Lois), Patty Cogdill and Lisa Walker (Jim); and his in-laws, Nancy Cogdill, Karen Farber (Hollis) and Keith Daniel (Rhonda). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to donors choice.
