He was predeceased by: his parents, Christian Hanson and Barbara Hanson (Arnegard); his wife Annabelle 'Ann Weger; and his siblings, Melvin Hanson, Helen Johnson, Carol Gjerve, Birdie Schoop and Thelma Lemke.

He is survived by: his grandsons, Jacob Hanson (Breanna Benjamin), John Newcomb and David Newcomb. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
