He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Lauer and Emma Lauer (Helm); his wife Alice Gehring; and his siblings, Betty Allen, Rodney Lauer and Inez Krein.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lynette Lauer and Lisa Nauman (Kent); his grandchildren, Devon Lauer, Shane Edwardson-Lauer, Leah Nauman and Kenna Nauman; his brother Gerald Lauer (Barbara); his close friend Eileen Wick; his former wife Wanda Schlichenmayer; and also, Gary Larson, Karen Johnson and Jackie Opland. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
