He was predeceased by: his parents, Bert Fred and Amanda Fred (Stromme); his wives, Darlene Cherie Borgen and Delores Dahl Bryntesen; his sons, Duane and Craig; his grandson Keegan Clarence Fred; and his brothers, Donnie and James.

He is survived by: his family, Brenda Dunai (Frank) of Bonham, TX and Becky Becker (Mark Jarzewiak) of Seneca, SC; his son Casey Fred (Suzanne) of Garrison, ND; and his siblings, Dale Fred (Marlene) of Bismarck, ND, Darvin Fred (Janet) of Cleveland, TN and Carol O'Dell (Deryle) of Fort Collins, CO.
