Jane Abe wrote a sympathy message

“It was such a pleasure to have met Carol through our professional career. Her devotion to enhancing our profession to be what it is today is due primarily because she realized through her involvement with cancer registrars that collection and enhancement of data overtime required their expertise. She developed training tools and taught many on data collection over her lifetime with us. We served together on many boards and committees over both our careers. I loved working with her.”

Jennifer Hafterson wrote a sympathy message

“My heart goes out to Carol's family. My life was enriched both personally and professionally by Carol. She was one of the best trainers/mentors in the cancer registry community. She helped many of us to improve our processes while also demonstrating that it is okay to try something new, observe the results (even those less than optimum, okay, perhaps disastrous) and make adjustments to keep striving forward and to keep a sense of humor about it all. Jennifer Hafterson, Fred Hutch.”

“Sending my condolences to Carol's family. Carol was one of the first people I met in the SEER program so many years ago. She had a deep understanding of cancer coding and was always happy to explain this work. I remember her at professional meetings where she was energized by her colleagues and by contributing to the important work of cancer surveillance.”

“I had the pleasure of working & learning from Carol for many years in the cancer registry profession. She did so much to promote the profession as well as providing education and training. I also knew her on a personal level and enjoyed her witty and fun personality. I know she loved her family and was so proud of them. I will miss seeing her Facebook posts and hearing about what she was up to. May her family and loved ones feel at peace during this time of mourning. She was a giant of a woman! Mary Potts wrote a sympathy message

“My sincere condolences to the family. Professionally, few matched her gift of being able to teach and inspire a love for our profession. Personally, from the moment I met her, there was never an awkward moment. I chalk it up to shared perspectives on what I call “life’s criticals,” her openness, and the fact that she could always make me laugh. I never worked harder than when I was working on something with Carol, and I never had a better time doing it than when working with her. Mary Potts”
