He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph Helm and Isabel Helm (Broeckel); his granddaughter Tiffany; and his brothers-in-law, Orrin Holen, Albert Blumhagen, Lawrence Blumhagen and Wayne Lemler.
He is survived by: his wife Delores Schlafman of McClusky; his sons, Alan Bismarck (Cindy Hollenbeck), Curt Bismarck (Kerrie), Blaine McClusky and James Bismarck (Michelle); his grandchildren, Brea, Brady, Kylie Bucholz (Ben), Corey, Alexis, Hailey, Hunter and Sawyer; his great grandchild Madison Green; and his sisters, Lorraine Blumhagen, Jerda Blumhagen, Mayola Holen, Arlene Biech (Clifford) and Vinita Lemler.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
