He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Zabel and Erna Zabel (Baer); and his sister Sharon Wolff. He is survived by: his wife Marcie; his sister Arlys Brown; his children, Tim Zabel (Helen), Kathy Sougstad (Bob), Dan Zabel (Shereen) and Deb Davison (Cal); and his grandchildren, Gene Zabel (Angela), Christopher Zabel (Debbie), CallieJo Schilling (Jess), Samantha Rohrbach (Brandon), Angela Dockter, Mical Sougstad (Michelle), Dalton Sougstad, Adrian Sougstad, Eric Zabel (Mandy), Shawn Zabel (Katie), Josie Goggin (Garrett), Jed Davison (Katlynn), Josh Davison (Raelynn) and Jess Davison (Elizabeth). He is also survived by 23 greatgrandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials in lieu of flowers can be given to the Selby Methodist Church children's programs (3301 4th Avenue, Selby, SD 57472) or the Solar Oven Project (1331 W University Ave., PO Box 460, Mitchell, SD 57301).
