He was predeceased by: his parents, Monson K. Schmidt and Anna Schmidt (Friesz); his wife Patricia A. Gerhardt of Joseph's Church; and his siblings, Leo, Lawrence, Leonard, Louis, Linus, Larry Schmidt, Hildegard Paul, Rosemary Paul and Judy Schmidt.
He is survived by: his children, Mark Schmidt (Charlotte), William Schmidt (Tammy), Joseph Schmidt, James Schmidt of Tampa, FL and Mary Lou Thompson (Chad); his grandchildren, Travis Schmidt (Casey), Preston Schmidt (Megan), Tiffany Otto (Justin) and Ashley Schmidt; his great grandchildren, Ryder Schmidt, Noah Schmidt, Bennett Schmidt, Rian Schmidt, Ella Schmidt, Maverick Otto, Otto of Tennessee, Finley Otto, Stella Hauser and Jaxson Hedstrom; and his sister Evina Ott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church Mandan or Good Samaritan Augusta Place Care Center Bismarck.
