He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schafer and Magdaline Schafer (Geiger); his father-in-law Leo Bauer; and his sister-in-law Jolene Bauer. He is survived by: his wife Connie Schafer (Bauer) of Mandan; his son Brian Schafer (Pamela) of Mandan; his grandchildren, Brianna Helbling (Lars Hegland) and Brookelle Schafer; his son Brad Schafer (Sharyl) of Mandan; his grandchildren, Taylor Krall (Eric), John Schafer and Wyatt Schafer; his son Brent Schafer (Tanya) of Mandan; his grandchildren, Jaxson Kummer and Beckett Schafer; his son Brandon Schafer of Mandan; his siblings, Dennis Schafer (Jolene) of Mandan and Karen Nuss (Don) of Mandan; and his mother-in-law Marie Bauer of Mandan.
