Arlene was born January 24, 1957, in Mandan, to Jack and Rose (Boehm) Schaff. She and her 9 siblings were raised and educated in Mandan.
In 1978, she married her high school sweetheart, Dale Thompson. Together, they had 4 children Joey, Cody, Tarah, and Alexandria. Arlene and Dale were married 17 years living, working, and raising their children in Mandan. In 1991, Arlene married Bruce Joersz. They were married 23 years. Together they owned and operated their family business, Marv's Hardware, until it's closure in 2006. She then opened her painting business, Wonderfaux Walls in 2007 with her daughters Joey and Alexandria. She owned and operated that up until her cancer diagnosis in January 2021, when her son Cody and daughter-in-law Jen took over for her. Arlene also worked for Do It Best traveling the country, setting up hardware stores with her soulmate Rich Thompson. Arlene and Rich loved to travel together always visiting new places. Arlene was the definition of unconditional love and enjoyed spending time with her 4 children, 22 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She had special bond with her granddaughter, Tavey, who was her favorite shopping partner. So full of life, she had many hobbies including traveling, camping, gardening, crafts, and puzzles with her daughter, Tarah. She was an avid bird watcher and had a knack for luring in hummingbirds, but her favorite past time was collecting crystals and gems. Arlene went above and beyond with all she accomplished and fought fearlessly through her battle with cancer. She is finally at peace and pain free.
She will be forever remembered by her four children, Joey (Mandan), Cody & Jen (Bismarck), Tarah, (Mandan), and Alexandria (Mandan); 22 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers, Gary (Renee), Larry (Darla), Keith, Tim, and Jack Jr. (Darcy); 2 sisters, Angie and Shirley, and her soulmate, Rich Thompson; his son Andy, and daughter Kelly (Courtney) Schauer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Alice; brother, Randall; and Nellie, the family pet.
