He is survived by: his wife June Marie Schreiner of Lisbon; his daughter Tanya Kelsen (Chris); his grandchildren, Cade, Paige, Camden and Brielle of Breckenridge, MN; his daughter Trisha Tangen (John); his grandchildren, Alex, Carter, Ava and Olivia of Monticello, MN; his siblings, Jewel Carlson of Pleasanton, CA, Betty Krueger of Hastings, MN, Joyce Scott (Lyle) of Dickinson, ND, Lana Hebl (Gene) of LaMoure, ND, Vyonne Lipp (Ron) and Peach; and his brothers-in-law, Ron Gangness of Bismarck, ND and Richard Worrel of Oakes, ND. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John is remembered by many for his selfless act of stem cell donation to his sister, Shirley, during her battle with cancer.
