He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Heyd and Otillia Heyd (Maas); his stepmother Lydia Schuldheisz Heyd; his brother Milbert; and his stepgreat-grandchild Devon Blackwelder.
He is survived by: his wife Bernice Maas of Hazen, ND; his children, Gary Heyd (Nancy), Debra Moug (Larry) and Nancy Lunde (Jack); his granddaughters, Katie Bartelson (Drew) and Dena Nilsen (Steve); his great grandchildren, Taylor Mjelstad (Grant), Emma Bartelson, Audrey Nilsen and Ezra Nilsen; his stepgrandchildren, Jessica Lindemann (Grant) and Justin Braaten (Tricia); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Cruz Lindemann, Este Lindemann and Bo Braaten; his great great grandchild Ellen Mjelstad; and his sister Marva Lou Miska. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
