He was predeceased by: his parents, Sebastian Spangler and Lula Spangler (Heasley); his wife Diane Luiken; and his sisters, Delaine Tomlin and Darlene Rosalie.

He is survived by: his sister Rae Wanzek (Tom) of Moorhead, MN; and his nieces and nephews, Carolyn Tomlin-Cichos, Linda Nord, Julie Wanzek, Gordon Tomlin, Galen Ibes and Gregg Ibes.
