He is survived by: his close friend Shadow; his wife Michelle Schlager (Dockter); his children, Misti Beckman (Troy) of Andover, MN and Chad Schlager (Roshni); his stepchildren, Chad Dockter (Amy) of Otsego, MN, Melissa Gilbertson (Dean) and Chris Dockter (Erin); his grandchildren, Kayla, Brayden, Kylie, Jacob, Sierra, Cameron, Taydem, Jack and Kase; and his siblings, Alma Lulay (Bob), Illa Schaller of Jamestown, ND and Byron Schlager (Deb) of Burnsville, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
