He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Oscar and Mabel Mildred Ellestad (Hardina); his sons, Todd and Terry Ellestad; and his siblings, Marilyn Rein, John, Gordon, Maynard, Roger and Royce Ellestad.
He is survived by: his children, Darlene Colbert (Dean) of West Fargo, ND, Timothy Ellestad of Havana, ND, Darrell Ellestad of Havana, ND and Debra Sorenson (Jake) of West Fargo; and his siblings, Donald Ellestad (Cathy) of Arvada, CO, Norma Brubakken (Gardner) of Two Harbors, MN and Joyce Lekang (Richard) of Fridley, MN. He is also survived by six grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren.
