He was predeceased by: his parents, Adeline Birchem (Konrath) and Martin Sr. Birchem; his siblings, Martin Jr., Raymond, Robert, Sylvester and Irene Oleson; and his siblings-in-law, Dennis Brovald and Glen Oleson.
He is survived by: his wife Mary A Birchem; his children, Andrew Birchem (Jacklyn) of Fargo, ND, Douglas Birchem (Diane) of Wahpeton, ND and Barbara Bladow (Aaron) of Hankinson, ND; his brother Francis Birchem of Wahpeton, ND; and his sisters-in-law, Margaret Birchem (Robert) of Mesa, AZ, Cathy Birchem (Martin Jr) of Moorhead, MN and Cordilia Birchem (Sylvester) of Wahpeton, ND.. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
