He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Smith and Adeline Smith (McCauley); his wife Joan Bushaw of Oslo, MN; and his siblings, Virginia Even (Smith) and Harry W. Smith Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Ellen (Joseph Zevola) of New York City, Tom (Kari) of Fargo and Jim (Dena) of Washington, DC; his grandchildren, Kirk, Matthew Zevola, Miranda, Isabella Smith, Andrew and Emily Smith; and his brother Dennis Smith of Lisbon, ND. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
