He was predeceased by: his father Kermit Carlson; his parents-in-law, Vince and Ardys Mikkelson; and his sister-in-law Carla Carlson. He is survived by: his mother Laura Jean Carlson (Erickson); his wife Carol Mikkelson; his grandchildren, Tina Carlson (Winona), Pam, Rob Ressler (Dominic), Michael, Tanya Carlson (Madison), Craig and Melissa Carlson (Theodore); his siblings, Jennifer Bayer (Dennis), Vickie Lindquist (Randy), Larry Carlson and Farrel Carlson (Gail); and his sister-in-law Gail Vandal (Keith). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous friends.

The family asks that memorials be directed to the Sheyenne Valley Cemetery Fund, ND FFA Foundation, or the ALS Association.

“Dearest Aunt Laura Jean, Carol, and all family members, My heart aches for all of you and even me for the loss of Dana. I can't imagine the grief you are enduring but we believe he is in Heaven now and out of pain. So although we are all sad, it is a blessing in a way. Dana is now with all his loved ones who have gone before him and he is with our Lord and Savior. He was such a GREAT man. He ALWAYS continued to make me laugh and I miss him a lot and LOVED him with my heart. Debbie Silvas”
