He was predeceased by: his parents, Casper Halmrast and Nora Halmrast; his brothers, Duane Halmrast (Clarice) and Clayton Halmrast (Virgina); his nephew Larry Halmrast; and his parents-in-law, Rose and Pete Schneider.

He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Schneider; his children, Tina Barnes (Tom), Cheri Miller (Kyle) and Scott Halmrast (Bernadette); his grandchildren, Shauntel (Sean), Alex (Lacey), Kyra (Austin), Ashlee, Austin (Alyssa) and Emilee (Braden); and his great grandchildren, Kai, Braisyn and Olson. He is also survived by his family, friends.
