He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Irvin Schmitke and Janice Schmitke (Hall); his wife Renate Vatthauer of Plummer, MN.; his children, Joshua of Moorhead, MN, Ben (Megan) and Ruth Gredvig (Anders) of Prescott, WI; his grandchildren, Naomie, Leah, William, Isaac, Nora, Adeline and Eleanor; his siblings, Mark (Kim) and Kristi Schmitke; and his brothers-in-law, Neilden (Pam) and Edlyn Vatthauer (Sandra). He was also cherished by 3 nephews; 12 nieces; 17 grand nephews and 18 grandnieces.
He had many brothers and sisters within the biking community and could be found on many charity rides and at Wednesday Bike Nights.
