He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Schmidt (Larry) and Delores Carlson; his sisters, Cheryl LaRude, Lisa Useldinger and Sandy Schwartz; his daughter Julie Rohde; his grandson Ian Ulmer; and his nephew Darren Nelson.
He is survived by: his children, Terry Schmidt (Judi) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Allen Schmidt (Tamara) of Fargo, ND, Tracy Wang (Shane Hoffart) of Yuma, AZ, Deon Schmidt (Mary) of Moorhead, MN, Steve Hansen of West Fargo, ND and Andra Hansen; his grandchildren, Jenny Krueger (Dean), Amanda Rohde, Tyler Schmidt (Heather), Tara Schmidt, Hans Ulmer (Maggie), Leif Ulmer, Eli Hanson, Alyssa Lafrance, Anna Kuchta (Alex), Nicholas Schmidt, Cole Schmidt and Mason Schmidt; and his brother Jerry Schmidt (Linda). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
