He was predeceased by : his sister Janine. He is survived by : his parents, Dale Gilje and Eleanore Gilje; his sisters, Michele, Susan and Laurie; his wife Julie; his children, Ian, Molly and Jamie; and his grandson Samuel Lee Swenson. He is also survived by his wife, children, parents, siblings and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 13th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Boulger Funeral Home (123 10th St S, Fargo, ND 58103). A funeral service was held on Thursday, June 13th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, June 13th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Fargo National Cemetery (8709 40th Ave NW, Harwood, ND 58042).

He donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the Padre Pio Foundation.
