He was predeceased by: his father Arthur Merkel; and his daughter Carol Merkel. He is survived by: his mother Karon Anliker (Neitzel); and his siblings, Cindy Kronberg (Merkel) of Ellendale, Rod Merkel (Carol) of South Heart, ND, Rusty (Holly) of Aberdeen, SD, Ross (Amanda) of Ellendale and Chantelle Rohr (Robert) of Lennox, SD. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
